Acrylic and pen ink on canvas

Mau Pulang (I Wanna Go Home) is a sentimental ode to the artist's childhood -- specifically the period in which they attended a local Indonesian school, and the familiar attributes of the experience. A red and white uniform with the shirt mandatorily tucked in, a black belt, then a pair of white socks that goes halfway through the calves under black shoes, and an after school routine of purchasing a cold drink contained in a plastic bag stands out in memory. There is something to be said about the subversion of the child figure leading their crying adult self, that is perhaps evoking a longing for times past, or the overwhelming ordeal of growing up. Whatever the viewer chooses to interpret, the painting is meant to express a sense of universal relatability despite the distinction of Indonesian and Southeast Asian elements.
